Having Trouble With Your Ring Falling Over? People with arthritic knuckles or enlarged knuckles have a hard time putting on and removing their rings. Once the ring is sized large enough to fit over their knuckle it falls to the side or spins. If the difference in size between their knuckle and back of their finger is 1 ½ sizes or less than there are three options. These three aren’t as expensive as adjustable shanks (arthritic knuckle shanks). Sizing Beads The first solution is to solder two gold Sizing Beads into the inside of the ring shank at the 5 and 7 o’clock positions. The ring will have to be sized a ¼ of a sized larger than the knuckle. The gold beads is the lowest cost but may be uncomfortable for some customers and the size of the beads may have to be reduced. Sizing Beads and sizing the ring up will cost approx. $70.00 Spring Insert The second solution is to solder a “U” shaped gold spring (made of white gold) into the inside of the ring shank. It is soldered at the bottom of the shank. The ring will have to be sized ½ larger than the knuckle. It is more comfortable to wear then the Sizing Beads and does a good job of holding the ring upright on the finger. The “U” shaped Spring Insert and sizing the ring up will cost approx. $122.00 Fold-over Device The third solution is to solder a Fold-over Device onto the outside of the ring shank. A hinge tube is soldered onto the outside of the ring shank at the 8 o’clock position and a small piece of gold is soldered at the 4 o’clock position. A gold wire loop is then inserted threw the hinge tube and soldered. The ring will have to be sized large enough to go over the knuckle. The Fold-over Device is less likely to scrape the skin on the finger than the sizing beads or the “U” shaped spring. The Fold-over Device can be made to take up more than 1 size. The Fold-over Device will cost approx. $185.00 (plus sizing if needed). The “Ring Guard” I don’t recommend the “Ring Guard” they tarnish and over time will cut into the ring shank. Replacing a ring shank is more expensive than any of the three solutions mentioned in this article. Which starts at $195.00. |
